Atelier Lei Guo to host UKREiiF roundtable on delivering international MMC Systems in the UK

Updated: May 9

Atelier Lei Guo (ALG), proud sponsor of The Great Housing Development Summit at UKREiiF, will host a focused roundtable exploring whether internationally sourced Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) systems can genuinely work within the realities of UK housing delivery.

Taking place on Wednesday 20 May, the session: “From Pattern Books to Delivery: Testing an International MMC System in the UK” will bring together public-sector leaders, technical advisors and delivery partners to move the MMC conversation beyond theory and into practical application.

The roundtable will examine some of the key barriers that have historically limited MMC adoption in the UK, including planning requirements, certification and warranty concerns, and how international systems interface with UK contractors, councils and delivery structures.

Led by Lei Guo alongside Dr Ana McMillin and ALG’s technical partners, the session will present a live MMC system proposition currently being developed for UK application, designed around a repeatable “pattern book” approach that combines standardised construction systems with locally responsive design and placemaking.

Unlike many broader MMC debates, the discussion will focus on testing a specific delivery model against real-world conditions, asking participants direct questions around planning viability, certification trust and delivery practicality.

Confirmed participants include representatives from Homes England, Brent, Slough, Hounslow, Bradford and Populo Living, alongside selected industry partners and technical advisors.

The session aligns closely with the wider ambitions of The Great Housing Development Summit, which is focused on practical solutions, delivery partnerships and scalable models capable of accelerating housing delivery across the UK. The Summit’s programme places a strong emphasis on actionable outcomes, collaborative working and addressing systemic barriers within the housing sector.

Lei Guo, Founder of Atelier Lei Guo, said:

“The UK housing sector does not need more theoretical conversations about MMC, it needs honest testing of systems that can actually be delivered within UK planning, regulatory and construction environments. This roundtable is about bringing together trusted public and private sector voices to challenge, scrutinise and refine a real proposition that could help unlock faster, more repeatable housing delivery.”

The roundtable is expected to produce a clear assessment of the system’s viability in UK conditions, identify the key blockers that still need to be overcome, and explore opportunities for future pilot projects and feasibility studies.
